MANILA, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- 11 people were killed and three others were wounded, some critically, after a 10-wheeler truck collided with a passenger van along a highway in Albay province, southeast of Manila, on Wednesday morning, police said.
Police said the crash happened past 9 a.m. local time, along a highway in the municipality of Camalig.
Video footage of the incident showed a truck travelling at high speed before crashing into the van carrying 14 people while travelling in the opposite lane.
The impact sent both vehicles plunging off the road, with the truck landing on top of the van, pinning its passengers beneath it.
Rescuers worked for hours extricating the passengers from the totally wrecked vehicles.
Police said the truck failed its brakes, causing it to travel at high speed.
The truck driver and helper were among the injured. ■
