KABUL, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- A new water supply network has started construction in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province in a bid to enhance clean water access for rural communities, the country's Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development said in a statement on Wednesday.

Valued at about 180,000 U.S. dollars, the project will be built on the outskirts of Khan Abad district, the statement noted.

Once completed, the network is projected to deliver safe drinking water to nearly 458 families in the district and surrounding areas.

To address health hazards posed by contaminated water, the Afghan government has constructed dams, water supply networks, and irrigation canals across the poverty-stricken country to improve water access and enhance groundwater storage.
