BUDAPEST, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Hungarian National Bank (MNB) has announced the release of a new 3,000-forint commemorative coin marking the 150th anniversary of the Hungarian Athletics Club (HAC), recognized as the origin of modern competitive sports in Hungary.
According to a decree signed by Central Bank Governor Mihaly Varga, the coin will enter circulation on Tuesday.
The MNB stated that the commemorative coins play a significant role in promoting historical and cultural heritage, highlighting in this case the establishment of organized sports in the country.
Established in 1875 under the name Magyar Athletikai Club, the Hungarian Athletics Club is the first sports association in Hungary, laying the groundwork for national athletic development and organized competition.
The MNB authorized a maximum mintage of 5,000 pieces, emphasizing the coin's function as a collectible tribute to Hungary's sporting heritage. ■
