ULAN BATOR, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- A suspected carbon monoxide poisoning has led to hospitalization of 112 people in Mongolia's capital during the Nov. 11-24 period, the country's National Center for Public Health reported Tuesday.

The center received a report that 112 people were suspected of being poisoned by carbon monoxide in a house and a traditional round-shaped dwelling, known as a ger across Mongolia, when they were at home.

A preliminary investigation indicated the poisoning may have been caused by smoke leaking from stove chimneys.

Housing is one of the most pressing issues in the sparsely populated country, especially in the capital city, which is home to over half of the country's 3.5 million population.

More than half of Ulan Bator's residents live in the city's ger districts, with no running water, central heating, or sewerage systems.
