COLOMBO, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan customs officials arrested a foreign national at Bandaranaike International Airport on Sunday night for attempting to smuggle cocaine worth about 250 million Sri Lankan rupees (about 830,000 U.S. dollars), a customs spokesman said on Monday.
The suspect, a 25-year-old Malaysian national, arrived in Sri Lanka at around 8:30 p.m. from Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, customs officials said.
Officers found 5 kilos of cocaine concealed in cans labeled as chocolate and hidden inside the suspect's hand luggage, officials said.
The suspect and the seized cocaine were handed over to the Narcotics Division of the Katunayake Airport Police for further investigation.
Sri Lanka has tightened airport security to curb illegal activities in recent months. ■
