BEIRUT/JERUSALEM, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and five others were injured on Saturday in Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese sources.
According to the Lebanese Public Health Ministry, one strike on a car in eastern Zawtar, Nabatieh district, killed a citizen. A Lebanese security source told Xinhua that the dead is a Hezbollah member named Kamel Rida Qarnabesh.
The official National News Agency said a stun grenade dropped by an Israeli drone wounded five citizens in the town of Shaqra, Bint Jbeil district.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Saturday in a statement that its air force struck Hezbollah launchers in southern Lebanon and two Hezbollah military sites in the Beqaa Valley, eastern Lebanon.
In another statement, the IDF said it launched an airstrike on Friday and killed a Hezbollah militant in the village of Froun, southern Lebanon.
The IDF claimed that throughout the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, the militant had advanced attacks against Israel and IDF troops, violating the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.
It vowed to "continue to operate in order to remove any threat" to Israel.
A ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel has been in effect since Nov. 27, 2024, largely ending the clashes that had erupted between the two sides in the wake of the Gaza conflict.
Despite the agreement, the Israeli army occasionally carries out strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are aimed at eliminating Hezbollah "threats," and maintains forces in five main positions in the Lebanese border area.
On Friday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health said Israeli strikes and violations had killed 331 people and injured 945 others in Lebanon since Nov. 28, 2024.
Also on Friday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun unveiled a security roadmap for southern Lebanon, pledging to deploy the army to the border region once Israel halts violations and withdraws its remaining forces. ■
