COLOMBO, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lanka Navy has detected 376 kg of narcotics on a multi-day fishing vessel intercepted off the country's southern coast, authorities said on Friday.
The vessel was stopped during a joint operation carried out Thursday by the Navy and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), acting on intelligence received. The vessel and its six Sri Lankan crew members were brought to the Tangalle Fisheries Harbor later that evening.
According to officials, the haul includes over 115 kg of heroin packed into 100 packets stored in five bags, and more than 261 kg of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice," packed into 200 packets in 13 bags.
Police said a former member of a local council in the Southern Province was among those arrested later by the PNB in connection with the incident. ■
