KABUL, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Authorities have commenced construction of an essential road in eastern Afghanistan's Ghazni Province that connects two poor districts to the provincial capital, Ghazni city, the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) reported on Wednesday.
The 30-km-long road, which connects the mountainous Ajrustan district to Malistan and continues to the provincial capital, Ghazni city, would be completed within one year at a cost of 346.7 million afghanis (around 5.22 million U.S. dollars), the state-owned media outlet added.
The launch and completion of the project will create job opportunities for locals, and will facilitate the easy transfer of their agricultural products to market, which is important for improving living conditions, RTA further said.
The Afghan government, as part of its efforts to stabilize the local economy, has launched a variety of projects elsewhere in the post-war country, including the construction of roads, check dams, water canals, and solar power plants. ■
