KABUL, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have launched the construction of development projects in southern Afghanistan's Helmand and Kandahar provinces to improve living conditions and strengthen the local infrastructure, state-run news agency Bakhtar reported on Sunday.

According to the report, a retaining wall and an essential bridge are being constructed in Garmsir district of Helmand province at a cost of 25 million afghani (over 377,000 U.S. dollars). These projects are expected to enhance the transportation and connection facilities for local residents.

Meanwhile, in Kandahar province, two dams are under construction in Nesh and Ghorak districts with a total cost of 14 million afghani (over 200,000 dollars), which will be completed within four months, the report added.

Decades of conflict and civil unrest have severely damaged Afghanistan's roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. The government has initiated multiple development projects aimed at rebuilding the country and boosting economic growth.
