ACCRA, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's government has allocated 150 million Ghana cedis (about 13.7 million U.S. dollars) to the country's senior men's national football team, the Black Stars, for their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson announced late Thursday.

Presenting the government's 2026 budget statement and economic policy for the 2026 financial year to Parliament, Forson said the funds will support the team's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"Sports remain one of Ghana's greatest unifying forces and a powerful driver of youth development, community pride, and national identity," said Forson.

Ghana has qualified for the 2026 World Cup, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Black Stars have made four World Cup appearances so far, with their best performance being a quarterfinal finish in 2010 in South Africa.
