NEW DELHI, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- India and Nepal inked a deal to boost rail trade connectivity here on Thursday, officials said.
The deal was signed during a meeting between India's federal Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and his Nepali counterpart Anil Kumar Sinha.
The two sides exchanged a Letter of Exchange amending the protocol to the Treaty of Transit between India and Nepal in this regard.
"This signing will facilitate the movement of rail-based freight between Jogbani (India) and Biratnagar (Nepal), including bulk cargo under an expanded definition," reads a statement issued by India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
This rail link was jointly inaugurated on June 1, 2023.
Officials said India remains a major trade and investment partner of Nepal, accounting for a significant share of its external trade. ■
