NEW DELHI, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Diplomatic missions worldwide expressed grief and solidarity after a car explosion near Delhi's Red Fort on Monday killed at least 10 people and injured about 20, according to Indian authorities.
Several countries also issued security advisories urging their citizens in India to avoid crowded areas and follow local guidance.
The U.S. Embassy in India offered condolences and said it is closely monitoring the situation. It issued a security alert advising U.S. citizens to avoid the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk areas, remain vigilant in places frequented by tourists, and monitor local media for updates.
The British High Commissioner to India conveyed sympathies and shared an updated travel advisory, urging those in the vicinity to follow instructions from local authorities.
Envoys from Argentina and France extended condolences on behalf of their governments and wished a swift recovery for the injured.
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in India said it stands in solidarity with the people and government of India and conveyed deep sympathies to affected families.
Morocco's Embassy in India expressed condolences and support for the injured, while Australia's High Commissioner to India sent sympathies to all affected and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Iran's Embassy in India also extended condolences to the government and people of India and expressed sympathy to the bereaved families.
The blast occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort metro station and sparked a fire that damaged several nearby vehicles, according to fire services. Authorities placed New Delhi's international airport, metro stations, and government buildings on heightened security. Home Minister Amit Shah said investigators are reviewing video footage from the area. ■
