BEIRUT, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Two Hezbollah members were killed Sunday in separate Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.
According to the NNA, an Israeli drone fired two guided missiles at a car near Al-Ma'sarah on the Houmine Al-Fawqa road in Nabatieh district, killing one person. A second strike targeted a pickup truck between Al-Sawwaneh and Khirbet Selm in southeastern Lebanon, killing another.
A Lebanese military intelligence source told Xinhua that the victims were Hezbollah members: engineer Abbas Al-Jawad, killed in Houmine Al-Fawqa, and Hassan Ali Sultan, killed near Al-Sawwaneh.
Separately, the NNA said the Israeli army is carrying out excavation work at a new military site near Aitaroun in southwestern Lebanon.
A Lebanese military intelligence official said the expansion is part of Israel's efforts to reinforce one of five fortified positions along the border. The Israeli team, equipped with bulldozers and excavators, is building earth berms, fortified shelters for armored vehicles, and surveillance structures overlooking Lebanese territory.
A U.S.- and French-brokered ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel has been in place since Nov. 27, 2024, ending the clashes that followed the Gaza war. Despite the truce, Israel continues occasional strikes in Lebanon, citing the need to eliminate Hezbollah "threats," and maintains five main positions along the border. ■
