BERLIN, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich and head coach Vincent Kompany are closing in on a Bundesliga milestone.
The Bavarian giants have won all nine of their opening league games this season, posting a goal difference of +29, an unprecedented feat in the Bundesliga's history.
The run has brought inevitable comparisons to Bayern's best-ever season start, set under Pep Guardiola in the 2015-16 campaign, when the club opened with 10 straight victories.
Bayern's goal difference after the first 10 games under Guardiola also stood at +29, meaning Kompany's side would surpass the record with another win over Union Berlin on Saturday.
Based on the official analysis of the Bundesliga, prior to the ninth round this season, Kompany and Guardiola shared the same average of 2.52 points per game in Bundesliga - Kompany from his first 42 matches in charge of Bayern, and Guardiola from his 102 games across three seasons with the club.
However, Guardiola still holds a narrow edge between them after 43 Bundesliga matches. Kompany's Bayern has recorded 109 points (34 wins, seven draws, two losses), while Guardiola collected 111 points (35 wins, six draws, two defeats), for an average of 2.58 points per match, slightly above Kompany's current 2.53.
Despite the statistical race, Kompany remains focused on the long-term target of securing Bayern's league title defense.
"We can't stop now, we have to keep going; we have good momentum," Kompany said after Bayern's victory away to Borussia Monchengladbach on October 25. "We can't get too arrogant. We must stay calm, work hard and deliver a result in the next game." ■
