JERUSALEM, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli military said on Wednesday it had completed a joint exercise with the Hellenic Air Force over Greek airspace, simulating long-range operational flights and in-air refueling of fighter jets.
In the exercise on Monday, Israeli and Greek aircraft carried out refueling operations that allowed fighter jets to extend their missions, the military said in a statement. The drills involved "dozens" of Greek fighter jets and Israel's 120th Squadron, the Air Force's main aerial refueling and strategic transport unit.
The 120th Squadron's primary mission is "to refuel long-range flights, allowing fighter jets to serve as a 'long arm' of the State of Israel," the statement said.
Israel has conducted numerous long-range air operations over the past two years, including a 12-day war with Iran in June and dozens of airstrikes on Houthi-controlled targets in Yemen.
The military said Israel regularly holds aerial refueling exercises with Greece several times a year as part of its annual training program, reflecting "ongoing regional cooperation" between the two countries. ■
