S. Korea's imported car sale logs double-digit growth in October

SEOUL, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sale logged a double-digit growth last month due to strong demand for German luxury models and U.S. electric vehicles, industry data showed Wednesday.

The number of imported vehicles sold here mounted 13.2 percent from a year earlier to 24,064 in October, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).

For the first 10 months of this year, 249,412 foreign vehicles were sold here, up 15.5 percent from the same period of last year.

German automaker BMW ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 6,177 units last month.

German carmaker Mercedes-Benz came next with the sale of 5,838 units, followed by U.S. carmaker Tesla with 4,350 units, Volvo with 1,435 units, Lexus with 1,226 units and BYD with 824 units.

The number of European models sold here was 16,283 last month, taking up 67.7 percent of the total. U.S., Japanese and Chinese brands recorded the market shares of 20.1 percent, 8.8 percent and 3.4 percent each.
