SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on Tuesday vowed to open an artificial intelligence (AI) era in the Asian country through a dramatic investment in research and development (R&D).
Lee said in his budget speech at the National Assembly that his administration drew up the 2026 budget with fiscal spending of 728 trillion won (505.7 billion U.S. dollars), up 8.1 percent compared to this year.
He stressed that the investment to open a new AI era will be significantly expanded with 10.1 trillion won (7.0 billion dollars) allocated for next year, more than three times the size of this year, to make the country one of the top three AI powers.
The president vowed to foster talents and build infrastructure relevant to AI while reorganizing conventional weapon systems into state-of-the-art weapon systems suitable for the AI era. ■
