BAGHDAD, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- A policeman was killed and three others, including a civilian, were wounded in a shooting incident on Monday in Maysan province in southern Iraq, the Maysan Provincial Police Command said.
According to a Command statement, the shooter randomly opened fire inside his house, causing panic among residents. Security forces responded immediately, cordoned off the area, and urged the shooter to "stop firing and surrender himself" with loudspeakers.
The shooter failed to comply and continued firing, during which three police officers sustained injuries of varying degrees. One of them later died from his injuries, in addition to the injury of a civilian passerby.
The statement added that security forces stormed the house and contained the situation after a brief clash. The shooter was found dead inside the house, and the weapon used in the incident was seized.
The Police Command said it had launched an investigation into the incident, reiterating its commitment to "dealing firmly with any actions that endanger community security." ■
