AMMAN, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) arrested 13 wanted suspects in connection with seven illicit drug cases in various parts of the kingdom over the past few days, the Public Security Directorate said on Sunday.

In one case, AND officers foiled three smuggling attempts. At Jaber border crossing, authorities arrested a suspect attempting to smuggle 80,000 narcotic pills hidden in a secret compartment of his vehicle.

Another suspect, who was set to receive the drugs, was later arrested.

In a second case, one person was arrested for attempting to smuggle 44,000 narcotic pills in coordination with accomplices outside the country. The drugs were seized in a storage yard near Jaber border crossing, and the main suspect was apprehended after a security raid.

In a third smuggling case, three individuals were arrested after AND teams, working with customs and security agencies, intercepted mail parcels containing paper sheets soaked in synthetic cannabis.

In the Central Badia region, AND units handled two trafficking cases. In the first, four armed and wanted suspects were arrested for cultivating and selling marijuana. In the second case, one person was arrested for promoting cocaine, with the drug found in his possession.

In the northeastern governorate of Mafraq, a drug dealer was arrested after police raided his house and found 20,000 narcotic pills hidden atop a tree. In Irbid, another dealer was arrested with 10 packages of hashish.
