COLOMBO, Nov. 03 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka Customs officers have detained a 28-year-old Sri Lankan national for attempting to smuggle 2.07 kg of Kush cannabis valued at more than 21 million Sri Lankan Rupees (about 68,700 U.S. dollars) into the country, officials said on Monday.
The suspect arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport from Bangkok, Thailand, via Chennai, India, on Indigo Airlines flight 6E1171. Officers from the Customs Narcotics Control Unit (NCU) discovered the narcotic substances concealed in the suspect's checked-in luggage during a routine inspection, the officials said.
Preliminary investigations were conducted by the NCU before the suspect and the confiscated drugs were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further inquiry and legal action. ■
