BERLIN, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Four people were injured in an explosion at a vehicle workshop near a gas station in the western German city of Castrop-Rauxel, local authorities said on Friday.
The blast occurred on Friday morning during cleaning work on a liquefied gas lorry, triggering a fire that destroyed the workshop hall, according to the fire department. Two of the victims suffered life-threatening burns and were airlifted to hospitals.
Several vehicles at the site, which is located in an industrial area, were damaged.
Police said residents heard a loud explosion followed by a thick cloud of smoke rising over the area.
The fire has been brought under control, but the cause of the explosion was not immediately clear. ■
