DAMASCUS, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- A military position near the Tishrin Dam in Syria's northern Aleppo province came under attack on Wednesday, killing two soldiers and injuring another, the defense authorities in Damascus said.

In a statement carried by the SANA news agency, the authorities accused the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF, of firing a guided missile at one of its posts in the dam area, calling it "a new violation of previous understandings" between the two sides.

The SDF denied the allegation, saying it had not targeted any military sites belonging to the Damascus authority. In a statement, the group said an explosion near the army post was caused by landmines, not by its fighters.

The Kurdish-led group said it remains committed to avoiding escalation and maintaining stability along front lines, urging media outlets to verify information "from reliable sources" and avoid inflaming tensions.

Tensions between the SDF and Syria's new transitional authorities have simmered for months, threatening fragile stability since the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.

The SDF, which controls much of the oil-rich northeast, seeks greater autonomy and recognition of Kurdish rights -- demands that clash with the government's push for a unified central state.

Disputes over control of oil fields and the integration of SDF fighters into the national army have triggered several confrontations this year, including clashes in Dayr Hafir in August and September.
