ANKARA, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Forty-nine Syrian military students are set to start courses at Turkish military academies on Friday as part of the cooperation aimed at bolstering Syria's defense capabilities, Turkish Defense Ministry Spokesperson Zeki Akturk said on Thursday.
Of the 49 students, 10 are from the army, 18 from the navy, and 21 from the air force, Akturk said.
Akturk said that following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Aug. 13, Syria and Türkiye have been carrying out joint training, consultancy, and technical support to strengthen Syria's defense and security capacities.
He added that some Syrian army units have already started conducting military training in Türkiye, utilizing facilities belonging to the Turkish Armed Forces.
Since the new Syrian administration took office in December last year, Ankara and Damascus have strengthened cooperation across multiple sectors, including security, trade, and infrastructure. ■
