JAKARTA, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, locally known as Whoosh, recorded a 6.3 percent increase in passengers to more than 5.1 million from January to October, according to its operator PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC).

"The rise in passenger numbers demonstrates growing public trust in the Whoosh high-speed train as a fast and reliable mode of transportation between Jakarta and Bandung," said Eva Chairunisa, KCIC's corporate secretary general manager.

Cumulatively, since commercial operations in October 2023, Whoosh has served more than 12.2 million passengers, underscoring its role as one of landmark cooperation projects between Indonesia and China in modern transport infrastructure.

Eva said that the growth was driven by several factors, including an increase in daily services to 62 trips and opening of Karawang station, which expanded accessibility and enhanced regional connectivity.

Improved intermodal integration at all Whoosh stations has also made travel more convenient and efficient, connecting passengers to airports, city centers, and tourism destinations in Jakarta, Karawang, and Greater Bandung.

With operating speeds of up to 350 km per hour, the high-speed railway has reduced travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from around three hours to 45 minutes.
