SINGAPORE, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Singapore will equip another 52 buses with Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), bringing the total number of fleet vehicles fitted with AEDs to 543.
Under the "AED-on-Wheels" program, launched in partnership with companies in the logistics and transport industry, drivers have also been trained in basic life-saving skills to respond to medical emergencies, Minister of State for Home Affairs Goh Pei Ming said Tuesday at a launch event.
Bus operator Tower Transit will install the new AEDs on 52 buses serving three routes that pass through industrial areas and neighborhoods with a higher density of senior residents, regions that are relatively remote and harder to access.
"AEDs have proven to make a huge difference between life and death during a cardiac arrest," said Goh, noting that with every minute of delay, a victim's chance of survival drops by 7 to 10 percent. ■
