JAKARTA, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will need an estimated 2,900 trillion rupiah (about 175 billion U.S. dollars) in investment over the next 10 years to meet its electricity supply needs, with the majority expected to come from the private sector, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) said on Wednesday.

"For the next 10 years, we are targeting approximately 2,900 trillion rupiah in total investment, and 70 percent of that will come from the private sector," M. Pradana Indrasaputra, special staff to the energy minister for strategic issue resolution, said at Indonesia's Road to Mining Day 2025 event.

He noted that one of the challenges in Indonesia's electricity ecosystem lies in transmission infrastructure, which requires significant funding and technological support.

"One of the weaknesses in our electricity ecosystem is transmission. Therefore, we have asked PLN to take the lead in building transmission networks," he said, referring to the state-owned power company PT PLN.

Pradana said that through large-scale investment and infrastructure expansion, the government aims to enhance access, affordability, and sustainability of energy across Indonesia.

"One of our priorities in the next five years is to open access to electricity throughout Indonesia," he added.
