HANOI, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Two boys aged 10 and 15 died in Vietnam's Mekong Delta city of Can Tho after being electrocuted during high tides, Vietnam News Agency reported Friday.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening at a streetlight pole in Nguyen Phuong Danh Park, where three boys were cycling.
The pole was inundated by rising floodwaters at the time. One boy managed to escape, while the other two died.
The Can Tho Hydrometeorological Station said the city recorded a historic high tide of 2.33 meters at 6 p.m. local time on Thursday, about an hour before the accident.
The record level, combined with heavy rainfall, caused extensive flooding across downtown and surrounding areas. ■
