HANOI, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam plans to invest over 196 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 7.5 billion U.S. dollars) to build the Gia Binh International Airport in the northern province of Bac Ninh, local media outlet VNExpress reported Friday.
The project will cover nearly 1,900 hectares, featuring four runways and a passenger terminal with a capacity of 30 million passengers by 2030 and 50 million by 2050, along with supporting facilities including cargo areas and maintenance centers.
According to the report, Gia Binh International Airport is expected to serve as a major international transit hub for northern Vietnam.
Construction of the Gia Binh International Airport officially kicked off on Aug. 19 in Bac Ninh province, the Vietnam News Agency reported. ■
