JAKARTA, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will cut domestic airfares by up to 14 percent ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays to ease travel costs for the public, the country's Ministry of Transportation announced on Tuesday.
The price reduction will apply to economy class tickets for domestic flights operating between Dec. 22 and Jan. 10 next year, according to the ministry.
Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the policy reflects the government's commitment to helping people travel more affordably during the year-end holiday period.
"We are taking this step to maintain inter-regional connectivity and ensure smooth public mobility with more affordable fares. We want to make sure that everyone can enjoy air transportation services, especially during the Christmas and New Year periods," he said. ■
