MAPUTO, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Three people have died following a shipwreck in the central Mozambican city of Beira, local media O Pais reported.
The incident occurred on Thursday when a vessel carrying 21 crew members capsized while traveling between the port and the anchorage area during a routine crew management operation.
According to O Pais, Anabela Chauque, delegate of the Maritime Transport Regulatory Authority in Sofala Province, said that 14 crew members have so far been rescued.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with authorities appealing for joint efforts to help locate the remaining missing crew members.
According to O Pais, this is the second shipwreck reported in Beira this year.
The first occurred in June, when a vessel carrying passengers and goods sank amid rough waters, leaving five people dead, according to the report. ■
