KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia recorded the lowest number of live births since 1980 with 414,918 births in 2024, official data showed Thursday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the number of live births decreased 9 percent compared to 2023.
According to the statement, more male babies were recorded than female babies with 213,919 and 200,999, respectively.
The decrease has contributed to a decline in crude birth rate from 13.6 births in 2023 to 12.2 births per 1,000 people in 2024. ■
