ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia earned 2.48 billion U.S. dollars in export revenue during the first quarter of the current Ethiopian fiscal year, which began on July 8, the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration said Tuesday.
The figure marks a 65 percent year-on-year increase, Trade and Regional Integration Minister Kassahun Gofe announced at a forum reviewing the country's quarterly export performance.
Gofe said Ethiopia had achieved tangible results across several export sectors, putting the country on track to meet its annual target of 9.4 billion dollars. He attributed the growth mainly to rising trade with neighboring countries under the African Continental Free Trade Area framework, and noted that Ethiopia is edging closer to joining the World Trade Organization.
Ethiopia earned a record 8.3 billion dollars in export revenue in the 2024/2025 fiscal year ending July 7, up 116 percent from the previous fiscal year.
Earlier this month, Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie said the government aims to raise the country's economic growth rate to 9 percent this year through strengthening macroeconomic stability and expanding growth across key sectors. ■
