ISLAMABAD, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that the country is committed to ensuring the rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities across all sectors of society.

Pakistan remained dedicated to its goals of inclusion, accessibility and equal education for visually impaired people, Sharif said on the occasion of the White Cane Safety Day, which is an international event marked every year to help the public better understand blindness and visual handicaps.

"We are determined to create employment opportunities for persons with visual impairments and fulfill our responsibilities under the international laws and policies on the rights of persons with disabilities," the prime minister said.

He said that the country takes great pride in the achievements of its visually impaired citizens, who continue to bring international recognition to Pakistan in various fields, adding that the true strength of a nation lies in empowering all its citizens without discrimination.

The premier also highlighted that the government is striving to build a Pakistan where every citizen, regardless of any physical limitation or challenge, can move forward freely, contribute fully to the nation's development and pursue their dreams without barriers.
