NEW DELHI, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Four workers were killed and six others left injured after a service lift collapsed at a power plant in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, police said Wednesday.
The lift crashed late Tuesday night at a power plant in Ucchpinda village of Sakti district, about 234 km northeast of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.
"Last night, 10 workers were descending in the lift after completing their shift at RKM Powergen Pvt Ltd. It suddenly plummeted and crashed, causing injuries to all of them," a senior police official said. "The injured were rushed to Jindal Fortis Hospital in nearby Raigarh district, where four succumbed."
According to the official, the remaining six workers are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Local media reports said the lift had recently undergone maintenance.
Police have registered a case and ordered an investigation into the incident. ■
