COLOMBO, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan police have seized a total of 1,248 kg of heroin and 1,852 kg of crystal methamphetamine during the past nine months, said a spokesperson on Saturday.
Acting police spokesperson Minura Senerath said the police have also introduced a new hotline for the public to confidentially share information related to drug trafficking.
Senerath said the public can now reach out to deputy inspectors general at the district level and senior police officers at the divisional level to report drug-related information.
He added that curbing drugs and crime are priorities of the police and the government.
In the last few months, there have been several high-profile drug busts in Sri Lanka.
The drugs seized so far in 2025 saw a significant increase from 2024. Authorities seized 832.3 kg of heroin, 8,359 kg of cannabis, and 1,364 kg of crystal methamphetamine in 2024, according to official data. ■
