KABUL, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- A four-day exhibition showcasing agricultural, livestock, and handicrafts products opened in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, on Wednesday, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock announced Thursday.

The fair aims to promote local production and expand market opportunities, according to a statement from the ministry.

It features 263 booths, including 56 dedicated to women, where farmers, livestock owners, and local businesspeople display their goods to support the development of these vital sectors, it said.

Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Ataullah Omari described the fair as a testament to Afghanistan's progress in agriculture and livestock, emphasizing that the Afghan government's efforts have boosted production and moved the country closer to food self-sufficiency, the statement said.

Since assuming power in August 2021, the Afghan government has prioritized agricultural development to address economic challenges and reduce reliance on imports.
