LISBON, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's tourism accommodation sector generated 4.89 billion euros (5.73 billion U.S. dollars) in revenues during the first eight months of 2025, up 7.9 percent year-on-year, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said Tuesday.
The increase came despite only moderate growth in overnight stays, which edged up 2.4 percent to 56.5 million. Lodging revenues alone rose 7.7 percent to 3.78 billion euros.
In August, the peak holiday month, tourist accommodation welcomed 3.8 million guests for 10.7 million overnight stays. Revenues rose 6.5 percent to 1.01 billion euros, while lodging income climbed 5.5 percent to 809.6 million euros.
The Algarve region remained the top contributor, accounting for more than a third of total revenues, followed by Lisbon and the northern region. Among source markets, the United Kingdom led with a 16.9 percent share of foreign overnight stays. (1 euro = 1.17 U.S. dollars) ■
