CAIRO, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people were killed and 14 others injured on Monday when a passenger bus overturned on a desert road in southern Egypt's Minya province, the Ministry of Health and Population said.
The accident occurred when the bus was carrying passengers from Minya to Cairo, according to the Minya Province's Facebook page. The injured were transported to the Samalut Medical Center in Minya for treatment.
The driver was among those killed in the accident, and the cause of the accident remains unclear, said the ministry.
Road accidents in Egypt are common due to factors such as lax traffic enforcement and poor road maintenance. In recent years, however, the country has been working to improve its infrastructure by building new roads and bridges to ease congestion. ■
