HANOI, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's import value of completely built-up automobiles hit a record high of 3.02 billion U.S. dollars in the first eight months of this year, local daily Nhan Dan reported Friday, citing data from Vietnam Customs.
The country imported 137,821 completely built-up automobiles during the period, the report said.
Cars with fewer than nine seats continued to make up the largest share, with over 104,000 units, up 19.6 percent year on year.
Imports of passenger vehicles surged 95.8 percent to 17,756 units from January to August.
In August alone, Vietnam imported 16,274 completely built-up automobiles worth 363 million dollars.
Most of the imports came from Indonesia, Thailand and China, according to Vietnam Customs. ■
