YANGON, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- A total of 23 people were killed in accidents involving the Yangon Bus Service (YBS) buses in Yangon, Myanmar, in over eight months of 2025, state-owned daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Wednesday.
Most of the victims in the accidents between January and mid-September this year were pedestrians, the report said.
U Lyan Cing Mang, joint secretary of the Yangon Region Public Transport Committee, said most cases were related to overtaking and pedestrians crossing roads at unexpected locations, the report said.
The YBS is the main public bus network operating in Yangon, Myanmar's commercial capital. According to official data from 2024, the network runs about 3,800 buses across 131 routes and carries around 1.4 million passengers daily. ■
