BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese authorities on Tuesday allocated some 60,000 items of central disaster relief supplies to the southern province of Guangdong as Typhoon Ragasa approaches landfall.

The disaster aid package, including tents, folding beds, summer quilts, emergency lighting and family emergency kits, will support local disaster relief efforts and assist affected people, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM).

The relief materials were jointly allocated by the office of the national commission for disaster prevention, reduction and relief, the MEM, and the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration.

China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, on the same day, elevated the typhoon emergency response to Level III for Guangdong and Hainan provinces in anticipation of Typhoon Ragasa, the 18th typhoon of the year.

According to the MEM, the powerful typhoon is expected to make landfall along Guangdong's coast between Zhuhai and Zhanjiang from midday to late Wednesday, bringing torrential rainfall to parts of Guangdong and other coastal provinces.
