ISTANBUL, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Several forest fires broke out across western and southern areas of Türkiye, posing a serious threat to residential areas and forcing evacuations, authorities said on Friday.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, fires were reported in Aydin, Mugla, and Antalya, provinces known for their dense forests and popular tourist destinations.

In the southwestern province of Mugla, seven forest fires erupted in rapid succession starting late Thursday evening.

Mugla Governor's Office said four blazes have been brought under control, while efforts to contain the remaining three are ongoing.

Aerial support, including helicopters and firefighting planes, was deployed alongside hundreds of firefighters on the ground, the office added.

In Antalya's Alanya district, residents were evacuated after the flames spread to their homes. Power was cut in neighborhoods near the advancing flames, Turkish broadcaster NTV reported. Authorities urged residents in affected areas to remain alert and follow evacuation orders when issued.

In Aydin, firefighting teams were continuing the efforts to contain wildfires that broke out in rural forested zones.

Officials warned that alarming wind conditions are raising the risk of further fire spread.

Türkiye has faced a growing number of wildfires this year, raising concerns about climate change and the country's wildfire preparedness.
