CAIRO, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Egypt on Sunday dispatched a new humanitarian aid convoy from the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing toward the Kerem Shalom crossing for inspection by Israeli authorities before entering the Gaza Strip, Egypt's state TV reported.

Run by the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), it is the 36th aid convoy sent from Egypt to Gaza since July 27.

The convoy set off at dawn carrying food supplies including rice, pasta, flour, and baby formula, as well as medicines and medical supplies, according to the report.

The previous convoy, the 35th, which was sent on Thursday, included mobile toilets for the first time to improve the living conditions of displaced Palestinians whose homes were destroyed or damaged in Israeli strikes.

The report said the convoys organized by the ERC also include donations collected by the people of Egypt's Sinai in support of Palestinians in Gaza. The ERC also coordinates with countries wishing to send aid to Gaza through Egypt.

An Emirati aid ship is scheduled to arrive Monday at Egypt's Arish seaport, where its cargo will be unloaded at the city's logistics hub before being transferred into Gaza, the report said.

Israel's military campaign in Gaza has killed 64,871 Palestinians and injured 164,610 others, while causing massive destruction to infrastructure and worsening humanitarian conditions, according to an update by Gaza's health authorities on Sunday.

The authorities also said that famine and malnutrition in Gaza have caused 422 deaths, including 145 children, since the conflict started on Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel that, according to Israeli reports, killed about 1,200 people and took some 250 hostages.

Egypt has provided more than 70 percent of the total aid delivered to Gaza since the conflict began, with over 550,000 tons of relief supplies transported via thousands of trucks, while about 5,000 trucks remain waiting on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in August.
