ACCRA, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Ghana has confirmed 21 new cases of mpox, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said in an update on Thursday.
The new infections bring the country's total count to 467, with one death recorded. Health authorities said all 16 regions have reported cases, raising concerns over the rising trend.
The government is working to secure vaccines for affected persons, though no timeline has been announced for their delivery. Meanwhile, the health service is urging the public to stay alert, practice good hygiene, and seek medical care if they develop symptoms.
Mpox, also known as monkeypox, is a rare viral disease spread through body fluids, respiratory droplets, and contaminated materials. Common symptoms include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes. ■
