MAPUTO, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has made a call for international investment and partnerships, positioning the country as a future leader in ocean governance.

During the opening of the third Marine Biodiversity Conference on Wednesday in Beira city, Sofala Province, central Mozambique, Chapo outlined a strategic vision that seamlessly merges rigorous environmental protection with economic prosperity.

"This conference reaffirms Mozambique as an oceanic nation that protects its natural heritage, a heritage that belongs to our people and must be managed sustainably to create opportunities for them," said Chapo.

He firmly recommitted the country to major global environmental pledges, specifically embracing the targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to be achieved by 2030.

Chapo emphasized that the government's priority is to build "a sustainable, inclusive blue economy that generates jobs, especially for Mozambican youth and women."

To achieve this, the president urged collective action to combat illegal fishing and called for investments that add value to local resources. He said this is essential for securing "a fair price for our communities and a decent income."

"We encourage the strengthening of national and international cooperation and the alignment of resources with the priorities we present here," Chapo added.
