SUVA, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Fiji is making progress toward achieving its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ahead of the 2030 deadline, Fiji Bureau of Statistics Chief Executive Kemueli Naiqama said on Friday.

Naiqama said the country is advancing on many of the more than 230 indicators that underpin the 17 global goals, ranging from poverty reduction and quality education to climate action and sustainable economic growth, reported Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.

He explained that the bureau is working closely with departments to improve data collection and analysis, ensuring that strategies remain evidence-based, which is critical in addressing challenges in areas such as health, education, and environmental sustainability.

The SDGs, adopted by UN member states in 2015, provide a shared blueprint for global peace and prosperity.

Despite challenges unique to Pacific Island nations, Fiji remains committed to meeting these ambitious targets.

At the national level, policies on renewable energy, ocean conservation, and social protection programs reflect its commitment to aligning development with the SDGs.
