ABU DHABI, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday launched its first experimental quantum-secured communications laboratory.
The initiative, which involves Abu Dhabi Global Market, ADGM Academy, the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), Hub71, and ASPIRE, will explore ultra-secure data transmission technologies using quantum science, according to a joint press release.
It aims to strengthen future digital infrastructure resilience and enhance digital privacy protection amid growing global cybersecurity threats, said the release.
According to the release, the TII has deployed quantum key distribution technology, thereby establishing the UAE's first such testing network in a commercial environment.
Also on Monday, Dubai's Drydocks World announced a contract with Amigo LNG to build one of the world's largest floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.
According to the UAE's official news agency WAM, the project, to be carried out in Dubai, involves converting two LNG carriers into floating storage units and constructing two new floating liquefaction vessels.
Operations are scheduled to begin in the second half 2028, with annual production capacity topping 4.2 million tonnes, WAM reported.
The facility will be located off Mexico's coast, enabling direct gas exports to Asia and Latin America, it reported. ■
