HANOI, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam is set to grant amnesty to more than 10,000 inmates on Sept. 2, the occasion of its National Day, which is expected to be the largest amnesty to date for reformed prisoners, local media VNExpress reported Tuesday.
Chairing the review meeting on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh stressed that the process must reflect the party and state's consistent policy of granting clemency to individuals who have demonstrated genuine rehabilitation while serving their prison terms, the report added.
All amnesty requests were screened and verified through a multi-level review process, involving inter-agency coordination across detention facilities managed by both the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense, the report noted. ■
