KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank) has reported higher profit in the first half of this year, underpinned by an uplift in non-interest income.
Maybank said in a statement on Tuesday that its net profit for the first half rose 4 percent year-on-year to 5.22 billion ringgit (1.24 billion U.S. dollars). Meanwhile, for the second quarter, the firm's net profit also increased 3.9 percent year-on-year to 2.63 billion ringgit.
"Our first half results reflect a resilient performance despite a challenging backdrop, registering a sustained growth in profitability," Maybank's President and Chief Executive Officer Khairussaleh Ramli said.
He said the firm will continue to expand digital solutions, enabling seamless cross border services and support micro, small, and medium enterprises and wealth clients across borders. ■
