VIENTIANE, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Laos is preparing for the potential impacts of Typhoon Kajiki, which is bringing widespread thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds, with efforts focused on ensuring public safety and minimizing damage.

The typhoon is forecast to pass through Laos, bringing widespread thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds to many areas from Aug. 25 to 31.

The Central Disaster Management Committee issued a notice on Monday, directing authorities at all levels to prepare for the storm's impact by warning the public to stay alert, designating temporary evacuation sites, and securing valuables and livestock in safe locations.

A dedicated team has been deployed to monitor water levels and stay alert for potential landslides, flash floods, and strong winds.

Additionally, officials from the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Environment met on Monday to discuss and monitor potential disasters related to the typhoon. The ministry has appointed a 24-hour monitoring team to track water levels and weather conditions.

In response to ongoing risks from the storm, the Laos-China Railway Co., Ltd. has announced an extension of the temporary suspension of all passenger train services on Tuesday, following the initial suspension on Monday.

The weather bureau of Laos has warned communities to stay alert and prepare for continuous heavy rainfall that may cause landslides and flash floods, urging citizens to closely monitor official forecasts and warnings.
